This training workshop aims to empower arts and cultural organisations and venue practitioners with the skills and confidence to 'navigate the storm’...
In the age of ‘cancel culture’, twitter trolls, and the prevalence of extreme political ideologies in the mainstream, programming and commissioning work which pushes boundaries or could cause controversy feels more and more risky. This training workshop aims to empower arts and cultural organisations and practitioners with the skills and confidence to 'navigate the storm’, by:
- building a care-focused strategy to supporting artists, freelancers, and staff (particularly those from marginalised backgrounds who are more susceptible);
- Exploring ways to mitigate risks without compromising on the integrity of programming;
- Offering an adaptable and practical guide for what to do if the sh*t hits the fan.
This training session is aimed at professionals from across the arts sector, it offers a collaborative and 360 degree approach to mitigating and managing backlash which is most effective when bringing together artists, organisers, and staff from across departments. It is aimed at policy makers, artistic directors, venue programmers, comms and marketing teams, and those responsible for visitor services/front of house operations. Venues may wish to send associate or attached artists as well but please indicate the venue in the comments section when registering.
Should you have any access requirements that we should be aware of, please email meghan@housetheatre.org.uk alongside your booking.
