News Story

After 10 years, we thought it was about time to give our house a bit of a spring clean...

We have therefore created a new brand style for the network, through the medium of triangles, which we hope better reflects the network as a whole. From Dorset in the South West, up to Norfolk at the top and back down to Kent, our triangle shows the furthest points of our network of southeastern venues and encompasses all the venues inside. The triangle also reflects the 'roof of the house' which you have hopefully raised through your venue's fantastic programming and ambitions.

We hope our new website and branding better celebrates the incredible network and gives venues more of a chance to interact and learn from eachother. We are always looking for new venues to join the network to freshen how we work and to reach more audiences.

house from 2012 - 2022 and the new house logo taking us into our next decade and beyond

Our new trailer is aimed at quickly explaining the breadth of the work of the network to potential new partners whilst giving the floor to the network who can best explain themselves. A big thank you to Alex Levene from The Place Bedford, Alex Coke from The Old Fire Station, Oxford, Angela Sykes from The Corn Hall, Diss and also to Meghan and Jonathon from the house team for taking part.

making the website lean and clean

To undertake this project we worked with Supercool Design; website specialist with a track record of making beautiful new websites for Arts Organisations across the UK.

As well as wanting to create an independent space for venues of all sizes to be represented equally, we had 2 new aims for the redesign project:

Make an accessible website

As well as having a commitment to tour theatre and provide training which promotes Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, we want to extend this into our digital spaces. Supercool have helped us create an AAA accessible website which is fully compatible with Screen Readers and other devices.

A Carbon Neutral website

It's not often that you think about the carbon impact of websites, but the old house site was unfortunately quite an emitter. With so many venue pages with large imagery and resources, it took a large amount of carbon to generate the pages. Supercool helped us trim down our website carbon output but reducing the size of the pages and assets.

One thing we would recommend you do is visit websitecarbon.com and use the carbon calculator to see how green your website is. As you can see, our new site is now cleaner than 63% of web pages tested (down from 74% dirtier!) but we still have room for improvements. Test your own site and see what small steps you might be able to take to cut your digital carbon footprint.

a space for you

The Meet the Network section is a space for venues to share their missions and link up with similar venues. The best way this can work is if you let us know the most up-to-date information that we can list on your behalf. If you have a new programmer, you have renovated your building or are looking to target new audiences through new programming goals please use the below to update your details. We will then get this updated in the next few days and then venues and artists can reach out to you and discuss new collaborations.
