Brain-stretching adventures created with extraordinary artists, kids, and scientists.

One Tenth Human is on a mission to empower children with better stories about their own potential. Their teams of brilliant artists create intricate, intimate, and wildly entertaining live imaginative events for children and adults to enjoy together, with audiences as the heroes of their adventures.

The company explode myth and expectation particularly when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (STEAM): because they know that these subjects come with powerful and dangerous cultural baggage; and that many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like them”.

They want to change this.

We caught up with Director Daniel Bye about the company and the show's tour which is heading to 7 house network venues across the South East.

Curious Investigators isn’t a typical sit-down theatre show for children, can you tell us a bit more about what makes it different?

Without its brilliant, inquisitive young audience the show would literally grind to a halt!

Scribble and Clipboard need your help solving problems, investigating rubbish – and saving a mysterious egg from getting smashed.

The show uses recycled set and materials and has recycling themes within the show themes, can you tell us why this is important to the company?

Touring theatre isn’t always the most environmentally sustainable thing to do, but it’s important to do everything we can not just to cut back on that, but to share the message about doing it.

Recycling can be fun! Truth be told, the show itself isn’t pushing or exploring a big environmental message – but all the same it’s important to us to practice what we preach.

What are you most looking forward to about touring Curious Investigators this autumn?

It’s a little bit different every time, depending on what the audience bring, so the thing I’m most looking forward to is the surprises!

The show started its creation in lockdown, can you tell us a little about the process?

It began as an online interactive experience via Zoom. That wasn’t the plan, but lots of plans changed in 2020!

When we were allowed to meet in person we began exploring the material afresh, armed with our new knowledge about what delighted audiences in this story. For some of us it was the first experience of being back in a rehearsal room working with other people – the joy and release of that lives on somehow in the show.

And lastly, what’s your favourite egg pun?

I’m sorry, I can’t think of a single yolk...
