Chelmsford Theatre is owned and operated by the City Council, following a FOH refurbishment programme alongside a full business overhaul we are emerging as a more popular, well attended, community focussed theatre also on the start of an outreach journey.

The main house seats an audience of 502 over 2 levels – stalls and balcony programming attracting diverse range of artists and companies to come to central Essex - this tends to be more commerical work but we are eager to expand our musical theatre, larger scale spoken word and popular drama in particular.

Chelmsford Theatre Studio (adjoining Chelmsford Theatre) is a great studio theatre seating up to 166 presenting a programme of smaller scale professional touring theatre, music productions, dance, comedy, outreach & workshops. As well as doubling up as a cinema hosting films and live screenings. We are keen to develop new work and work in partnership in the studio to ensure a varied and vibrant offer for our community.
