About Deaf Awareness
Friday 8 September, 10.30 – 12.30. In Person at South Street Arts Centre, Reading - CANCELLED
Wednesday 13 September, 10.30 – 12.30. Online
Did you know that 12 million people in the UK are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing?
We can help you better understand your deaf audience, and how even simple access provisions will benefit everyone. We can also teach you some simple communication techniques, and reveal how to make your building and your work more accessible.
Our two hour session includes information about the types of deafness and who might be visiting your venue and some fun lipreading workshops which will help you really understand deafness.
This training is for professionals working at venues within the house southeast theatre network. It would be ideal for any venue who has programmed the house tours of The Rest of Our Lives or Fatherhood in Autumn 2023 (which have either integrated BSL or Captions) but is also open to other venues looking to improve their provisions for d/Deaf audiences.
Venues may wish to send associate or attached artists as well but please indicate the venue in the comments section when registering.
If you have any additional needs, such as BSL interpretation, please get in touch with Meghan at meghan@housetheatre.org.uk as soon as possible.
