Applecart Arts is a growing creative hub in Upton Park, East London serving and celebrating the local community, hosting local groups and organisations within the building as well as presenting a programme of original music, film, visual art, theatre, and dance.
We at Applecart believe that stories are potent and have the power to change, challenge and strengthen communities. We aim to reach across cultural divides and tell stories which engage, inspire and entertain our audiences.
Launched in 2008, Applecart Arts began by telling stories to a regular monthly audience in a pub in Whitechapel, London. Since then Applecart has toured to various venues, pubs, theatres and universities around the country and is now.
Our future remains true to our storytelling roots; searching for narratives across the arts, and championing voices that might otherwise be unheard or ignored.
Applecart is keen to work with other creatives who are nurturing new ideas and developing innovative ways of working. We’re always on the look out for ways in which we can support and encourage actors, directors, writers, visual artists, producers, musicians, spoken word artists and any other creatives to grow and develop.
Recent projects include:
Fable Workshop: The Collider Sessions | Monthly workshops for creatives to share ideas and network | Dec 2019 – ongoing
ShoutOut Festival | A creative response to fear and hate | October 2019
Transitions: Seen Unseen | A touring art exhibition showcasing stories of migration | April – Sep 2019
In January 2020 we launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund the redevelopment and renovation of our building. We aim to refurbish our theatre and meeting spaces, improve the toilet facilities, install a lift to all floors, and reduce water and energy waste by installing a brand-new boiler.
