Things to consider before you apply.


What is Pitch Up?

Pitch Up is an event to encourage relationships between venues and theatre-makers. Do read about the event before applying.

house welcomes applications from all theatre-makers, especially those from backgrounds which are currently underrepresented in the theatre industry.

Ask yourself: why do you want to pitch?
Consider why you’re pitching and what relationships you hope to gain. This is significant in your application as we’re passionate about venues and artists working together to create new work. Whilst money is never not important, what else are you looking for in a collaboration?

What ideas are we looking for?
This is the first Pitch Up we’ve run since the Covid-19 pandemic. Many venues are still rebuilding their activity, so we are interested to hear about new ideas as well as pre-existing work that is closer to being ready to tour, providing that an element of collaboration is always involved. You can apply with up to two ideas – one as your main pitch and one as an additional project, which is described on the form as the ‘Other Project’.

How are the pitches selected?
An industry panel will meet to decide the pitchers. We try to curate a wide range of ideas from a wide range of artists. All applicants will be notified of the outcome. If you are offered a pitch, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance of the place. We will notify you of the deadline for supplying technical information as well as content for the event programme.

Covid-19 considerations
Unless guidance changes we are planning this as an in-person event with no social distancing. We will not require attendees to wear face masks but request that anyone with Covid-19 symptoms does not attend. The selected pitchers will be encouraged to create a video of their pitch in case they are unable to attend at short notice. If you are interested in pitching but feel uncomfortable or unable to attend in person please let us know. If selected to pitch, we will work with you to find the most effective and appropriate way to include you from afar on the day.


Five simple steps to apply.


1. Ensure you’re able to attend the event
Pitch Up will be held on Thursday 03 February 2022, at the Unicorn Theatre in London.

2. Complete the form at the bottom of this page
There are 24 questions, most of which are simple, short answers. The form should take around 20 minutes to complete, once you have prepared your pitching copy. You can save and continue later if you want to work on the application in stages.

3. Supply visual assets to support your idea
Applications must include an image which reflects the project(s). If you are successful in securing a pitch, we will require this same image in high-resolution (in .jpg format, in portrait and landscape orientations, and at least 300dpi), to be used in the event programme. You must have permission to use this image. Only one image will be used for each project. You are also welcome to include film footage to give us a flavour of your work.

4. Make sure your application is valid
We cannot accept applications if: 

  • Images are not provided 
  • Photograph credits are missing 
  • Fields are incomplete 

5. Submit by 10am on Monday 13 December 2021
