“Pitch Up is a fantastic opportunity to gather with peers from across the South East to network, hear about artists’ ideas and to reflect on practice, positioning and programming. It exposes you to ideas at incubation stage through to work in development, and more. It is a valuable afternoon and no doubt one from which you will come away with a new connection, idea or friend.” Kerry Andrews, Head of Performance at Brighton Dome
Pitch Up is our friendly gathering of theatre-makers and venues. Rather than a set-up to ‘sell’, we come together to present, discuss, share and connect, with a shared vision of making exciting contemporary theatre and reaching new audiences.
July 2018’s Pitch Up, hosted by Cambridge Junction, reminded us all again that there is an appetite from all sides to connect with each other face-to-face, rather than through dreaded inboxes!
Twelve artist pitches of five minutes and 12 venue pitches of one minute were given to an audience of artists, producers and programmers over the day, with breaks to encourage networking, conversations and connections. The full schedule, including information about individual pitches can be found here
Pitches consist of ideas at incubation stage through to work in development, with venues pitching about their artist opportunities, programming trends, and lots more.
house aims to promote a culture of generosity, and this event is no different. It is a real pleasure to see a room full of people energised by a spirit of openness, cooperation and shared learning, fuelled by conversations about collaborations. Many people attend to observe rather than pitch and there’s a healthy, proportionate balance of artists and venues and a mix of ideas. Conversations continue to happen long after the pitches finish and connections continue to form out of the room after the event ends.
We aim to hold Pitch Up twice a year and wish for it continue playing a valuable role in bringing theatre-makers and venues together across the South East. We partner with a variety of wonderful host venues. Make sure you’re signed up to our mailing list and connect with @housetheatre on Twitter in order to be first to know about our next dates and locations; as well as other opportunities from artist training to venue days.
This year saw the largest-ever number of artist applications to pitch and a record number of venues in attendance. The event sold out quicker than ever before, so be sure to book early to attend.
Thank you to everyone involved for making these events a success.
