Mark’s big South Coast bike ride

If you have met Mark, house’s Programming Associate, you will know he is a man who can’t sit still for very long. Each year at the Edinburgh Fringe he sets up the house programmers Arthur’s Seat running club who run up the dormant volcano every morning before heading out into the festival to see some shows. You could call him an infectious bundle of energy.

Well to kick off his season of venue visits, Mark has decided to take a green approach and is donning the Lycra as he cycles between venues along the South Coast. After popping into Farnham Maltings at the start of the week, Mark kicked off his journey from Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton, near Southampton before picking up a ferry across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Whilst over there, he paid visits to Quay Arts Centre in Newport before crossing the ‘surprisingly hilly’ island to get to Ventnor Exchange on the southern tip of the island. After sharing some chips with the venue manager Jack, Mark got back on the saddle, cycled back to Cowes and crossed over to Southampton for a well earned rest.

In the morning Mark headed over to MAST in Southampton before hitting the road, reaching Ashcroft Arts Centre in Fareham for lunch after a trip on a super pink foot ferry. After one final push, Mark made it to his final destination, Portsmouth, where he met with Ben & Tobias, the managers from the Guildhall and Groundlings Theatre.

We work best as a network by understanding what’s happening on the ground at each of your venues. We want to learn from you exactly how we can help and advise and we are more than happy to visit you in person or set up an online call session. Mark is already planning his next trip from Bognor Regis to Hastings at the start of June – but wherever you’re based if you’d like him to drop in at your venue, get in touch!

Upcoming Regional networking sessions

We have organised a series of regional network cluster meetings which will be led by our Audience Development Manager Jonathon, offering you the chance to meet Programmers & Marketeers from venues close & similar to your own. These will be great to share what’s going on at your venues and perhaps see where there might be opportunities to work together with other venues on new initiatives or programming ideas. Where possible we have worked with venues in the network producing festivals so you are able to take a look at some brilliant new work following the meeting. If you would like to come to one of the meetings, please drop Jonathon an email to get an invite.
