a volunteer-driven programme to offer 1-2-1 support from venues for venues
In response to the ever-changing needs of arts organisations, house has set up a pool of individuals who can offer in-kind 1-2-1 advice for venues in the South East who need it. The network is made up of volunteers from across the region with differing areas of expertise and experience.

If you’d like to receive support from one of the volunteer advisors, please email info@housetheatre.org.uk with subject line ‘in it together’ and a brief description of the support needed. We will pair you with someone available, who will get in touch asap.

Who can apply to volunteer?
Applications to become a volunteer advisor are open to anyone with at least 3 years’ experience in their chosen area of expertise within the arts and culture industry. house particularly welcomes applications from trustees and those currently working in, or furloughed from, venues in the South East. Farnham Maltings is an equal opportunities organisation and encourages individuals from all backgrounds to apply.
Volunteer advisors will be able to decide how many ‘consultations’ they take on, but it is predicted that commitment will be no more than 1-2 hours every month.

What are the desired outcomes of the ‘in it together’ programme?
By offering bespoke support to venues, the ambitions are to:
• Allow venues to access in-kind support during this difficult time
• Encourage venues to diversify sources of support
• Utilise the expertise in the region
• Encourage venues to explore new approaches to problem-solving
• Strengthen professional relationships
• Advocate generosity within the arts and culture industry
• Encourage skills-sharing

How will the ‘in it together’ programme run?
Venues in the South East are able to access this support easily via the house website. Their need will be matched with a volunteer advisor, who has the right to accept or decline the request. Support will take the form of a phone call, video call or email exchange, and should be offered within 7 days of the venue’s request.

What is the person specification for volunteer advisors?
Individuals applying will:
• Be currently working for an arts organisation in the South East
• Be dedicated to improving the sector
• Believe in the power of generosity and working together
• Understand house’s values
• Be able to share an objective point of view
• Have an interest in connecting with peers and supporting those who are seeking to diversify sources of support

Areas and needs will vary, but as a guideline, house is seeking those with confidence and experience in at least one of the following areas:
