house believes that by investing in venue programmers and supporting them to see new and exciting work, audiences will not only have the opportunity to see quality theatre, but venues will become more sustainable cultural hubs.
Each year, we take venue programmers and marketers to festivals across the UK and occasionally internationally.
Edinburgh Festival Fringe: 22nd-26th August 2022
After 2 years of online viewing parties, we cannot be more excited to return to Edinburgh in person this summer! We’ll be supporting up to 40 venue programmers from the South East to go to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for 5 days. house has again arranged accommodation at Pollock Halls just by Holyrood Park so all the delegates can stay together and share their opinions on all the new work they have seen. For programmers new to Edinburgh we have a buddy scheme to help guide you through and get the most out of the festival. On our first night, we host a meal at Pollock Halls, giving programmers the opportunity to meet each other and then each night of the week the house team will pop up in a bar in town so you can join us and reflect on what you’ve seen each day.
Applications open on Thursday 17th March and all venues in the house network are welcome to apply. Programmers from house registered, Non-National Portfolio Organisations can apply to have their accommodation costs fully covered by house. Programmers from venues who are an NPO can also apply to be in the delegation and we will arrange their accommodation but they will be required to cover this cost (from £110 per night). We are particularly keen to support new programmers and venues who are new to the network or have not previously visited Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Delegate will need to cover the cost of their own travel to and from the festival. If you have any additional costs or specific needs because of access support please outline them in your application and we’ll help where we are able. We will advise the network when registration for Fringe Industry accreditation opens but we strongly recommend that programmers plan a budget to purchase tickets. The 2022 programme will be announced in stages from the start of the March and can be seen here.
If you are planning to visit the festival at the same time as the delegation but have already arranged alternative accommodation, you are welcome to join us for the first night meal on 22 August (please email us to let us know you’re coming) as well as each evening.
