[TippingPoint] [Musical Theatre Darkroom] Blackout

[TippingPoint] [Musical Theatre Darkroom] Blackout

Project details

What price are we prepared to pay to keep the lights on?

Blackout is a new site-specific, immersive musical that puts the future of British energy under the spotlight. Drawing on research with communities in Harlow and Lowestoft the show explores the increasing energy needs of a growing population, the nuclear power debate and the controversy surrounding projects such as Hinkley Point C.

This work-in-progress performance will be part debate and part headphones-musical, giving audiences the chance to experience Blackout in it’s early stages of development and actively help shape the show as it is being made.

This initial stage of development includes extended research phases in the communities of Lowestoft and Harlow and time to explore cutting edge sound technology. The R&D will culminate in a work in progress performance at Harlow Playhouse.

From an original idea developed through China Plate’s Musical Theatre Darkroom, a project delivered in partnership with house, Musical Theatre Network, Harlow Playhouse, South Hill Park Arts Centre & Royal & Derngate.

Blackout is supported using public funds from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
