PSYCHEdelight, founded in 2013 by Director, Playwright and Clinical Psychologist Sophie Besse, started the BORDERLINE project after a year of volunteer work in the refugee camp Calais in 2015. Following the success of our first devised one hour show BORDERLINE, we shall continue our outreach and drama devising workshops with refugee and European performers and create a new one hour satirical theatre comedy that tells the story of life in the UK for our charismatic cast. You can visit our website at https://www.psychedelight.org/borderline and see press reviews for our first show and a short documentary about us made by The Guardian.
Our proposed new show, a bittersweet comedy about refugee’s experiences of life here in the UK, can be performed alone or with our existing show BORDERLINE. The shows can be performed either in a traditional theatre, or with no technical facilities as a street theatre / agit-prop style show.
Our experience of performing Borderline 1 has shown us how effective political comedy can be. Home Office employees have been moved and teenagers given a sense of empathy and context to other young people experiencing the horrors of war. Facilitated Q&A sessions after performances mean that difficult questions can be discussed.
“I don’t want sadness anymore. I don’t want pity. I love making people laugh it
makes me feel better.”

With generous in kind support from Theatre Delicatessen, The Cockpit London, The Young Vic and others, and financial support from Siren Associates, Unity Theatre Trust and private donors, we are looking for venues who could work in partnership with us to support our further applications to Arts Funding bodies and trusts and foundations supporting creative work for social change.
We are beginning schools outreach work with Brighton and Hove Council and the Lycee Francais in London and can replicate this work elsewhere in the UK with venues building outreach and education programmes. Do get in touch!
